Tehran: Iran has proposed a seven day roadmap aimed at ending its war with the United States, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying Tehran is awaiting Washington’s response before implementing the plan.
The proposal was conveyed to the US through mediators, including Qatar, during diplomatic contacts on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Under the plan, Iran says hostilities would end across the region, while Washington would lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and ease sanctions affecting Iranian oil exports.
Iran has also called for the release of frozen Iranian assets as part of the proposed steps.
Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened on the seventh day if the conditions are met. Talks on Iran’s nuclear programme would also resume under the proposed roadmap.
The proposal closely follows commitments outlined in a US-Iran memorandum reached in June, which later broke down after both sides accused each other of violations.
Araghchi said Tehran is prepared to begin implementing the roadmap once Washington agrees to the terms, leaving the next step with the US.
