MALE, Maldives — President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the Maldives is enacting policy reforms to strengthen its domestic investment climate and create ideal conditions for Saudi Arabian investors to participate in the nation’s ongoing economic transformation.

Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the 96th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, President Muizzu emphasized that the bilateral relationship extends beyond traditional diplomacy, describing it as “a relationship between two people built on faith, trust, and enduring goodwill.”

“As we look forward to the future, we want to build on this strong foundation in our road to become a developed state by 2040,” President Muizzu stated.

“The Maldives is ready to welcome greater Saudi investment and development partnerships. We are committed to put in place the right policy strengthening our investment environment and creating the conditions for Saudi investors and businessmen to participate meaningfully in our economic transformation.”

The President identified major avenues for prospective business ventures, highlighting “tremendous opportunities ahead in tourism, in infrastructure, housing, healthcare, fisheries, renewable energy, logistics, and other emerging sectors.”

Paying tribute to Saudi Arabia’s national journey under the theme ‘Our pride is in our nature’, President Muizzu noted that shared values such as vision, determination, and hospitality resonate deeply with Maldivian culture. He expressed gratitude for the Saudi Fund for Development’s long-standing financial backing, particularly in critical infrastructure and post-2004 tsunami relief, while pointing to the Makkah Route Initiative and the King Salman Mosque as key expressions of mutual friendship.

Highlighting regional security, President Muizzu welcomed the signing of the charter for multinational maritime defense, stressing that an island nation like the Maldives relies heavily on safe sea routes. He also announced that the Maldives will participate in Expo 2030 in Riyadh to display its national identity while deepening business, tourism, and innovation ties with Saudi Arabia.
