Moscow, Russia: Ukraine launched more than 1,000 drones at targets across Russia, including hundreds aimed at Moscow, in what the city’s mayor described as the largest drone attack on the capital.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces shot down 1,110 Ukrainian drones across Russia, Crimea and the Black Sea.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 1,600 drones had been intercepted since Saturday, including around 450 heading toward Moscow.

Moscow hit by mass drone attack

Several drones reached the grounds of the Moscow Oil Refinery, while another struck a residential building, according to Russian authorities.

The attack killed three people in the Moscow region and injured 20 others, Reuters reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had struck a major Russian oil facility and a logistics facility. He said the targets were linked to Russia’s war effort.

Attack coincides with Russian election

The strikes came on the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections. Sobyanin said the attack was intended to disrupt the election, but said it did not achieve that objective.

Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the Moscow attack. The strikes came as Russia continued drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, with Ukrainian authorities reporting civilian deaths in the Kyiv region.
