MALÉ: The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has officially granted its 2028 presidential ticket to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu following a unanimous endorsement vote by party delegates.

The decision was formalized through a special resolution passed during the PNC Congress held at the Social Centre. The resolution, submitted by Fuvahmulah South Constituency delegate Abdulla Ibrahim, was approved unanimously by all 1,119 participating members present at the session. PNC Chairperson and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla officially presented the presidential ticket to President Muizzu during the closing ceremony.

The resolution praised President Muizzu’s national governance, economic policies, and housing infrastructure projects, stating that a second term is necessary to complete key development goals. Under Article 88 (b) of the PNC Constitution, an incumbent President from the party seeking a second term may receive the presidential nomination directly without an internal primary election if endorsed by the Congress or Senate.

Following the vote, newly appointed PNC executive leadership members and elected officials formally took an oath of office in the presence of President Muizzu to support the party platform and secure victory in the 2028 presidential election.
