Male’: Maldives Police have told the Criminal Court that 372.52g of meth was found at a premises where three people were arrested during a joint drug operation by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.

According to a police statement submitted to court, officers raided M. Bohdhage under a court order following intelligence that Hussain Shavin, 26, of Saani Villa in Huraa, Mariyam Easha Ashraf, 21, of Villa in Thimarafushi, and Mohamed Naahil, 25, of Reysham in Hulhudhoo were allegedly using and trafficking drugs at the premises. The three were found in the sitting room when police entered.

Police said suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia were found on a table, along with playing cards and a phone placed on a tin to provide additional light. Shavin allegedly told officers that the premises had been rented at the request of a friend and that the friend had left nine tins and some meth there.

A wider search of the premises led to the seizure of 372.52g of meth, 225.09g of heroin and 39,992.18g of cannabis, according to police. Officers also found drug laced vape cartridges, bottles believed to contain alcohol and items allegedly used to package drugs for trafficking.

Naahil’s detention extended

The court extended Naahil’s detention by 10 days, saying police had submitted sufficient evidence and statements from officers involved in the operation. Police also said a urine test from Naahil was positive for THC and CAT, while clothing belonging to both men and women was found in a wardrobe at the premises.

The defence argued that the room where the drugs were found was not Naahil’s residence and that he had no connection to the premises or its rental. Although he has no previous criminal record, police said the large quantity of drugs found and the suspected involvement of others justified further investigation, with Naahil’s level of involvement expected to become clearer as the investigation continues.
