Maldives sea to air cargo service transported 394.53 tonnes of goods to 12 countries in August, with shipments handled through partnerships with five international airlines.

Male’: A total of 394.53 tonnes of cargo, equivalent to 89 TEUs, was transported to 12 countries through Maldives’ sea to air cargo service in August, according to statistics from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
The figures show that the service facilitated shipments through five international airlines during the month.
The airlines involved were Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Swiss Airlines.
The sea to air cargo service is operated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in collaboration with MPL. The service was launched in May 2024.
The Maldivian Government has previously highlighted the potential to expand the service further, noting the large number of international airlines operating routes to and from the Maldives.
Sea to air transshipment is widely used internationally as a way of connecting maritime cargo with air freight networks. The Government believes expanding the service could create further opportunities to develop the Maldives’ logistics sector and contribute to economic growth.
