MALÉ: The government has officially allocated and handed over a permanent plot of land in Hulhumalé Phase 2 to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to expand its national emergency response capacity.
Under directives from the President’s Office, a plot measuring 13,574 square feet has been designated for the state disaster relief agency. According to an announcement posted by NDMA on X, the allocation aligns with policy targets set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to strengthen disaster risk reduction and build climate resilience across the country.
The newly assigned plot will house the primary headquarters of NDMA alongside key operational infrastructure designed to respond swiftly during national emergencies and disasters.
Authorities highlighted that securing permanent land will significantly enhance national emergency response capabilities, allowing NDMA to streamline relief services and maintain crucial supplies near the main transport hubs in the Greater Malé area.
Planned developments and facilities to be constructed on the new site include:
NDMA Main Headquarters: Administrative offices and national operational control center.
Emergency Operations Centre: A modern facility dedicated to managing live emergency situations.
Emergency Warehouse: Dedicated storage space for relief supplies, equipment, and response gear.
Temporary Shelter Facility: A specialized space built to accommodate displaced individuals during disasters.
