MALÉ: The Civil Court has concluded a state recovery case filed against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb after he paid the remaining MVR 1 million out of a MVR 2 million court-ordered fine.
The fine stems from an October 5, 2020 Criminal Court verdict, where Adeeb was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay MVR 2 million within one month after pleading guilty to seven charges related to the MVR 2 billion MMPRC graft scandal.
Because Adeeb initially paid only MVR 1 million, the Attorney General’s Office submitted the enforcement case to the Civil Court to recover the remaining balance.

Payment Breakdown: Adeeb paid MVR 100,000 on September 11, 2025, and settled the final MVR 900,000 balance on August 13.
State Confirmation: Following receipt of the full payment, the Attorney General’s Office requested the Civil Court on August 19 to rule the sentence fully enforced.
Plea Bargain: The 20-year sentence and fine were handed down under a confession agreement with the Prosecutor General’s Office.
