MALÉ: The Cabinet has decided to limit unskilled foreign workers in the Maldives to a single SIM card per person to strengthen national mobile SIM registration rules.
Under the new regulations, an unskilled expatriate worker cannot be issued more than one SIM card.
The decision directly impacts a large segment of the country’s foreign workforce, where the vast majority of unskilled laborers originate from Bangladesh, followed by significant numbers from India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

In addition to limiting SIM cards for foreign workers, the Cabinet decided to take legal and administrative action against registered owners of SIM cards smuggled into prisons.
