The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources designated 10 new zones across five atolls to expand and develop the nation's mariculture industry.

MALÉ: The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources designated 10 additional ocean zones to expand and develop the country’s mariculture industry.
Mariculture involves farming marine life in controlled ocean environments for commercial use and trade.
Prior to this decision, the government designated four primary regions for mariculture development. These included areas in K. Maniyafushi, Meemu Atoll, Bodu Thiladhunmathi, and Thaa Atoll.
The 10 newly designated locations expand coverage across five specific atolls:
Thaa Atoll: Two new designated areas.
Meemu Atoll: Three new designated areas.
Faafu Atoll: Two new designated areas.
Dhaalu Atoll: Two new designated areas.
Gaafu Alifu Atoll: One new designated area.
