Personal information linked to users of Malé Taxi Line has reportedly been exposed online following a cyberattack that disrupted the government-backed taxi booking service.
The incident emerged after the platform became inaccessible on Saturday night, with users reporting that they could no longer use the application.
The suspected breach was identified after changes were noticed in the names of taxi drivers registered with the service. Data from the platform was subsequently circulated on social media.
The information reportedly exposed includes users’ names, phone numbers, wallet identification numbers and email addresses. Messages sent through the platform and records containing customer trip information were also reportedly shared.
Malé Taxi Line was introduced by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in April, initially allowing customers to request taxis through a dedicated hotline.
Online booking was later introduced before the service’s mobile application was officially launched on June 2.
