President Mohamed Muizzu has nominated former ambassador Jameela Ali Khalid to represent the Maldives in the United Kingdom, subject to parliamentary approval.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Jameela Ali Khalid for appointment as the Maldives’ ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The nomination has been forwarded to the People’s Majlis Foreign Relations Committee for review.
Under the Maldives Foreign Service Act, ambassadorial appointments require approval from Parliament following consideration by the relevant committee.
The position became vacant after former UK Ambassador Iruthisham Adam was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Muizzu.
Jameela has extensive experience in foreign affairs, having previously served as the Maldives’ ambassador to Belgium.
She has also served as a member of the Civil Service Commission.
If approved by the Foreign Relations Committee, Jameela’s appointment will be put to a vote in Parliament
