MALE’— The Indian High Commission in the Maldives on Saturday held a ceremony in Malé to mark India’s 80th Independence Day.

The ceremony began with the hoisting of the Indian national flag at the High Commission, with High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian leading the event.

The High Commission said the Indian Tricolour was raised at dawn as part of the Suryapath Tiranga initiative, which symbolically carries the flag from one sunrise to the next across Indian diplomatic missions.

“Carry the Indian Tricolour from one sunrise to the next, and inspire Indians to spread the fervour of #HarGharTiranga,” the High Commission said in a post on X.

India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day on August 15, commemorating its independence from British rule in 1947.

The celebrations in Maldives form part of events organised by Indian diplomatic missions around the world to mark the national occasion.
