The Judicial Service Commission has appointed five new judges to fill vacancies at the Criminal and Civil Courts, with all five formally sworn in on Thursday.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed five new judges to fill vacant positions at the Criminal and Civil Courts.
Three judges were appointed to the Criminal Court following a recruitment process launched last month to fill three vacancies.
The new Criminal Court judges are Sulaiman Mohamed of Nooraaneemaage, Lh. Kurendhoo; Ahmed Thaufeeq of Daizeemaage, Ha. Dhidhdhoo; and Mohamed Abdulla of Dream, Th. Veymandoo.
Sulaiman holds a Bachelor of Shari’ah and Law (Honours) and has served as chief magistrate of the Kurendhoo Magistrate Court since September 2022. He has more than 12 years of judicial experience.
Thaufeeq has 18 years of experience in the legal sector, including service at the Attorney General’s Office and Prosecutor General’s Office. Mohamed Abdulla has served as a senior public prosecutor since September 2017.
The JSC also appointed Mohamed Nishath of Reelmanzil, Ga. Kanduhulhudhoo, and Aasiya Azeema of Rosevilla, R. Hulhudhuffaaru, as judges of the Civil Court.
Nishath has more than 15 years of legal and judicial experience, while Azeema previously served as a Legal Officer and Deputy Director of Legal Affairs at the People’s Majlis.
All five judges took their oaths of office at a ceremony held on Thursday.
