Millions across the UK and Europe watched a rare solar eclipse, with Britain seeing more than 90% of the Sun obscured while parts of Spain experienced total darkness.

Millions of people across the UK and Europe gathered to witness a spectacular solar eclipse, with the event drawing large crowds to viewing sites and landmarks.
The eclipse was partial across most of the UK, reaching its peak shortly after 7pm BST. More than 90% of the Sun was covered by the Moon in much of the country, while coverage reached about 95% in Cornwall.
Parts of Greenland, Iceland and Spain experienced a total eclipse, as the Moon completely blocked the Sun and briefly plunged the surroundings into darkness.
Cloudy conditions affected parts of northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, while clearer skies in central and southern England and Wales provided better views.
The eclipse was the UK’s most significant solar eclipse since 1999, attracting astronomy enthusiasts and families who gathered to safely observe the rare event.
