The government has opened applications for two new financial support schemes aimed at helping farmers and agricultural businesses expand their work across the northern atolls.
The “Dhanduveri Manfa” grant and “Dhanduveri Nafaa” financing scheme were officially launched by Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources Minister Ahmed Shiyam during his visit to HA. Kelaa.
The Manfa programme is the second round of a MVR 15 million matching-grant initiative introduced under the Maldives Agribusiness Programme, which is being carried out with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The second round is open to farmers, agricultural NGOs, small and medium-sized businesses and cooperatives in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani atolls. This round will focus on climate-smart farming, including greenhouse agriculture and hydroponic systems.
Meanwhile, Dhanduveri Nafaa has opened for the first time under an Islamic financing model. The scheme will support modern farming activities such as protected and urban agriculture, vertical gardening, poultry and livestock farming, agro-processing, agroforestry and plant nurseries.
Funding will also be available for veterinary services, pet farms and businesses supplying pet-related products.
The Ministry said the programmes are designed to help farmers strengthen their businesses, expand the agricultural sector and encourage more young people to enter modern farming.
Applications for the Dhanduveri Manfa grant are being accepted through the SME Digital portal.
