Iran says it has reached a preliminary agreement with Oman on a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, but warns that security concerns remain despite progress toward reopening the key maritime passage.

IRAN: Iran says it has reached an agreement with Oman on a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, with the arrangement now in its final stages.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the two countries had agreed on the route’s geographical coordinates but did not provide further details.
Despite the progress, Baqaei said the agreement alone would not ensure safe navigation, arguing that security concerns remain due to the US blockade of Iranian ports.
The Strait of Hormuz has been largely disrupted since the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel escalated earlier this year. The waterway is a vital global energy route, carrying a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
