Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially handed over a newly constructed modern public restroom facility at the Rasfannu artificial beach to the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure. Built under MPL’s corporate social responsibility program, the accessible facility includes toilets and shower amenities for beachgoers.

Maldives Ports Limited has officially transferred a newly built, fully accessible public restroom and shower block at Rasfannu beach to the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure.
State port operator Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has completed and transferred a modern public toilet block at the Rasfannu artificial beach to the government.
The facility was formally handed over by MPL Deputy CEO Mohamed Mueen to Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Ismail Hameed during an official ceremony held at the beach area. MPL officials confirmed that the project was carried out under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative following a direct request from the ministry.
Location: Rasfannu Artificial Beach Area, Malé.
Amenities: Includes two restrooms and integrated shower facilities.
Accessibility Standards: Designed with ramps and spacious stalls to accommodate wheelchair users, elderly citizens, children, and individuals with special needs.
Project Execution: Architectural planning and design were completed by MPL’s Projects Department, while physical construction was carried out by employees of the company’s Facilities Department.

Rasfannu is one of the capital’s most vital public recreational destinations, serving as an essential open coastal space for Malé residents, families, elderly visitors, and domestic tourists. Located on the western coast of Malé, the artificial beach offers a safe environment for swimming, outdoor exercise, family gatherings, and evening relaxation in an otherwise densely populated urban landscape.
The addition of modern, accessible restrooms and showers directly addresses long-standing public requests for clean sanitation facilities at the beach. The development follows recent infrastructure upgrades by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, which reopened the Rasfannu swimming area in June after coastal protection and drainage works executed by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
