Velana International Airport and its VIP Maamahi Executive Lounge have secured nominations in two prestigious categories for the 2026 World Travel Awards, with voting now open.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) confirmed today that Velana International Airport (VIA) and its primary VIP lounge have been shortlisted for international honors at the upcoming World Travel Awards 2026.
According to MACL, the nominations reflect the ongoing efforts to modernize airport services and elevate customer experience at the nation’s primary gateway.
Main Airport Nomination: Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport 2026 (Velana International Airport).
VIP Lounge Nomination: Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport Lounge 2026 (Maamahi Executive Lounge).
Past Track Record: VIA has previously won the “Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport” title 12 times.
Voting Status: Public and industry voting is currently open on the official World Travel Awards website.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 and is widely recognized as a global benchmark for excellence in travel and tourism.
MACL highlighted that the nomination of the Maamahi Executive Lounge recognizes ongoing service upgrades aimed at delivering premium hospitality to international passengers. The airport operator urged members of the public and travel industry partners to cast their votes online to support the Maldives’ national gateway.
