Search Continues for Two Missing After Boat Capsizes Near Gaafaru

MNDF continues searching for two expatriates missing after a boat capsized near K. Gaafaru. The Coast Guard and Air Corps have searched 2,747 square nautical miles by sea and air, while eight others from the vessel have been rescued.

The MNDF has expanded search operations for two expatriates who remain missing after a boat capsized near K. Gaafaru.

The Coast Guard and MNDF Air Corps have so far searched an area covering 2,747 square nautical miles by sea and air. Coast Guard divers have also inspected the location where the vessel sank as part of the ongoing rescue efforts.

The search operation involves the Coast Guard vessel CGS Imaaduddin and a Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC), along with other resources.

The incident occurred at around 8:48 a.m. on July 31, when a vessel carrying 10 people, including two Maldivians and eight expatriates, capsized. Eight people were rescued and taken to Gaafaru in stable condition.

MNDF confirmed that efforts to locate the two missing individuals are still ongoing.
