The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has held high-level discussions with Australian diplomatic and law enforcement representatives to expand specialized training opportunities and strengthen bilateral security cooperation.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed met with the Australian High Commissioner to the Maldives, David Jessup, alongside Detective Superintendent Kathryn Polkinghorne, Senior Liaison Officer for the Australian Federal Police (AFP) based in Colombo.

Focus Areas: Expanding training opportunities for Maldivian officers, particularly in counter-terrorism operations, complex criminal investigations, and technical capacity building.

Recognition of AFP Support: Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed highlighted the continuous assistance provided by the Australian Federal Police, including training initiatives, investigative tools, and technical expertise.

Future Collaboration: Both parties discussed joint operational initiatives and future programs to bolster law enforcement capabilities across the archipelago.

Long-Standing Relations: Officials reaffirmed the strong historical ties between the Maldives and Australia in maritime security and regional stability.

Recent Bilateral Cooperation

The meeting comes shortly after Australia delivered a naval patrol vessel to the Maldives under a bilateral grant assistance program. The vessel arrived in Male’ earlier this year and was officially commissioned into active service earlier this week to enhance maritime surveillance and law enforcement capabilities across Maldivian waters.
