Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has voiced strong opposition to FIFA’s proposed new commercial structure for the World Cup, saying the plan was introduced without proper consultation with regional football bodies.

In a letter to AFC member associations, Shaikh Salman said major decisions affecting global football should involve discussions with all confederations. He also expressed concern over the short deadline given to review the proposal.

FIFA’s plan would create a new company to manage the commercial rights of the World Cup and other competitions. The proposal is expected to be reviewed by FIFA members in the coming weeks.
