ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: At least 11 police officers were killed after heavily armed militants attacked a police checkpost in Hangu district of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province overnight. Security forces later killed 15 attackers during a prolonged gun battle.
The assault targeted the Khazina police post, where militants used heavy weapons and ambushed reinforcements. More than 20 police officers were also injured in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility, but authorities suspect the attack was carried out by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified attacks in the region in recent years.
