Met Office issues Yellow Alert for Central and Southern Maldives

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for central and southern Maldives, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds up to 40 mph, and rough seas until 4:00 PM.

MALÉ, Maldives: The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow weather alert for parts of the central and southern Maldives due to expected heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

The alert is active from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM and covers areas from Raa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll. The Met Office warned of wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph and rough seas during heavy showers.

Winds are expected to blow from the southeast to southwest at speeds of 5 to 15 mph in the southern atolls and 10 to 20 mph in central and northern areas, with stronger gusts possible during squalls.

The Met Office also forecast thunderstorms across the country over the weekend, with weather conditions expected to improve and become sunnier by Sunday. Sea conditions may remain rough, with wave heights reaching 3 to 6 feet.
