Bangladesh has donated 10 saplings and pledged another 20,000 trees to support the Maldives' Five Million Tree Programme, strengthening environmental cooperation between the two countries.

MALÉ, Maldives: Bangladesh has donated 10 saplings to the Maldives and pledged an additional 20,000 trees to support the government's Five Million Tree Programme.
The announcement was made by Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman during a tree-planting ceremony held at Lonuziyaaraiy Park in Malé on Sunday. The event was part of the celebrations marking the Maldives' 61st Independence Day.
Dr Rahman presented the 10 saplings as a symbol of the strong friendship between the Maldives and Bangladesh. He also announced that Bangladesh would provide another 20,000 trees to support the country's tree-planting programme.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the donation reflects the growing cooperation between the two countries in environmental protection and climate resilience.
Foreign Minister Dr Iruthisham Adam and Minister of Tourism and Environment Ali Shareef highlighted the importance of the Five Million
Tree Programme in protecting biodiversity and promoting environmental sustainability.
They thanked Dr Rahman and the Government of Bangladesh for their support and contribution to the programme.
The Five Million Tree Programme was launched on 5 June 2024 as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to plant five million trees across the Maldives. According to the government, more than one million trees have already been planted under the initiative.
