Oil Tankers change course in Red Sea after Houthi warning

Five oil tankers changed course in the Red Sea after Yemen's Houthi militia warned ships not to sail to Saudi Arabian ports, raising fresh concerns about shipping safety in the region.

Five oil tankers changed course in the Red Sea on Wednesday after Yemen's Houthi militia warned ships to stay away from Saudi Arabian ports.

Ship-tracking data showed that two of the tankers changed their destination to the Suez Canal instead of continuing to Saudi Arabia.

The Red Sea is one of the world's busiest shipping routes.

Many cargo ships and oil tankers pass through the area every day on their way between Asia and Europe.

The latest warning has increased concerns about the safety of ships using the route. Some shipping companies are closely watching the situation and may change routes if the security risk grows.

The Houthis have attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea before. Because of those attacks, many shipping companies have already chosen longer routes around southern Africa to keep their vessels and crews safe.
