Pakistan has requested a $10 billion financial support facility from the United States in an effort to strengthen its foreign exchange reserves and stabilize its economy.
According to reports, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb requested the Bilateral Exchange Stabilization Support Facility during discussions with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The proposed facility could have a maturity period of up to five years if approved.
The requested support is aimed at increasing Pakistan’s foreign currency reserves, reducing pressure on the Pakistani rupee, and lowering the country’s dependence on emergency financing from international lenders.
The move comes as Pakistan continues efforts to stabilize its economy while
implementing reforms linked to its International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. The country has previously relied on support from international institutions and allied nations to manage financial pressures.
The United States Treasury has not publicly commented on the request, and no final decision has been announced regarding approval of the proposed facility.
