Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has determined that Iran’s recent seizure of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz does not constitute a violation of the ceasefire, according to the White House.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the president does not view the incidents as breaches of the truce he unilaterally extended earlier this week, noting that the vessels involved were neither American nor Israeli.

“These were two international vessels,” Leavitt said in an interview with Fox News, adding that media coverage had exaggerated the situation in an attempt to undermine the administration.

Leavitt also defended the ongoing U.S. naval blockade, stating it remains “incredibly effective.” The blockade was imposed to prevent Iran from charging tolls on ships transiting the strategic waterway.

According to reports by The Wall Street Journal, Iran seized at least two vessels in the area on Wednesday. The Greek-owned ships Epaminondas and

Francesca were reportedly fired upon before being escorted into Iranian waters, while a third vessel, Euphoria, remains stranded.

Meanwhile, Martha MacCallum reported that Trump dismissed speculation about a short timeline for the ceasefire extension, stating he is “not in a rush” and prefers to secure the best possible agreement.

“The president has not set a deadline himself. Ultimately, he will dictate the timetable,” Leavitt said, adding that the administration believes Iran is currently in a weakened position.
