VILIMALE’, Maldives: Four people, including three Maldivian actors, have been released following a police investigation into alleged drug use, possession and trafficking in Vilimale’.
The suspects were arrested on October 8 from a room in a house on the island. They include actors Ahmed Azmeel, Ismail Jumaihu and Mohamed Vishal, known as Roman, as well as Azmeel’s younger brother, Shahil Mohamed.
Police have completed the investigation and forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office for consideration of possible charges and further legal action.
According to details presented in court, police found the room locked during the operation and forced the door open. Suspected drugs were reportedly found on a table inside.
Police told the court that the preliminary weight of the seized substances met the legal threshold for a drug trafficking offence.
Three of the four suspects, excluding Jumaihu, had reportedly been arrested and detained previously in connection with other drug-related cases.
Police said the suspects could be detained again if a court orders their remand during the legal proceedings.
The case has now been referred to the Prosecutor General’s Office for review. The allegations have not been established as proven, and any further action will depend on the legal process.
