The Maldivian Democratic Party will hold its congress in Male' from October 1 to 3, with an investment forum planned as part of the event.

Male’: The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will hold its next congress in Male’ from October 1 to 3. Deputy Chairperson Mohamed Shifaz announced the decision at a press meeting today.
Shifaz said the congress will be held at the Male’ City Council hall. He said the party is required to hold a congress every five years to review and change its basic rules.
The party will announce the congress delegates and the full programme within the next two to three days, he said.
Shifaz said increasing national income will be a key focus of this year’s congress. The party will also hold a special session for an investment forum.
He said the forum will present development projects proposed by councils across the country. Investors will be invited to explore these projects and support their implementation.
Shifaz said 74 projects have already been submitted to the MDP secretariat. The party expects the number to rise to more than 100 before the congress.
MDP Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed said the government had not provided a venue large enough for all the party’s delegates. He said the party had also raised the issue with the Elections Commission.
Waheed said MDP congresses usually have more than 1,000 delegates. He said the Male’ City Council hall is currently the only suitable venue available to the party for the event.
