A Father’s Special Girl

In a heartfelt Facebook post shared last night, Zizi’s father, Hussain Sinan, described his daughter as his “special girl” and “star pupil.”

He recalled how Zizi would sometimes tell him “I hate you” when she was little. He would simply smile and tell her it was okay.

When Zizi moved away to Hulhumale’, her father said he always kept a home ready for her, including a special room where she could stay whenever she wanted to come home.

He recalled a child who loved learning, kept detailed plans and journals, and approached challenges with remarkable discipline. He taught her mathematics through games, helped her improve her Quran recitation using the Pomodoro technique, and supported her in science fairs, public speaking, spelling bees and art.

Zizi was also fearless. Her father recalled taking her snorkeling and roller skating, saying she would dust herself off after falling and remind him, “It’s not how many times I fall, it’s how many times I get up that counts.”

Dreams Cut Short

A bright student at Billabong High International School, Zizi loved chess, her siblings and learning new things. She dreamed of going into medicine.

Her father remembered the simple moments they shared, from cooking her favorite chicken curry and omelets to eating together at Select Restaurant. They were also planning an educational trip to Laamu.

Describing her as a softer and kinder version of himself, Sinan wrote that Zizi had given him the best years of his life.

“You taught me far more than I could ever teach you,” he wrote, calling her his “star pupil.”

At just nine years old, Zizi’s life was tragically cut short, but the memories of her courage, kindness and bright spirit remain with those who loved her.
