Former President Abdulla Yameen has said President Muizzu helped implement major projects during his administration but did not initiate them. Yameen said the projects were planned and approved by his government.

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu did not initiate any of the major development projects carried out during Yameen’s administration.
Speaking on Sangu TV, Yameen said the major projects during his presidency were planned and approved by the President’s Office. He said Muizzu, who served as Housing Minister at the time, was involved in carrying out some of the projects but was not responsible for starting them.
Yameen pointed to major developments including the Sinamalé Bridge, Dharumavantha Hospital, the King Salman Mosque and the development of Velana International Airport. He said many of these projects were carried out by foreign companies.
The former President said Muizzu should receive credit for the work he carried out as Housing Minister, but rejected claims that the projects could not have been completed without him.
Yameen also recalled an instance involving a swimming track in Maafannu, saying Muizzu had initially told him that the proposed project could not be built. He noted that the project was eventually completed.
Yameen was President from 2013 to 2018, while Muizzu served as Housing Minister during that period. Several of the country’s largest infrastructure projects were launched or carried out during Yameen’s administration.
