Malé: As the Thilamalé Bridge moves closer to completion, it is becoming clear that the project represents far more than a new transport link. Once operational, it is expected to transform the Greater Malé Region into the Maldives' largest integrated urban and economic corridor.

The 6.74-kilometre Greater Malé Connectivity Project will provide a continuous land transport corridor linking Hulhumalé Phase II, Hulhumalé, Velana International Airport, Malé, Villimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi. For the first time, these key residential, commercial and industrial areas will be connected through an uninterrupted road network.

The project is expected to significantly expand the Maldives' continuous road network, creating what is set to become the country's largest interconnected land transport system. The new corridor will make travel between the islands faster, more efficient and less dependent on ferry services.

Beyond improving daily commuting, the bridge is expected to strengthen the national economy by improving the movement of people, goods and essential services. Faster and more reliable transport is expected to reduce travel times, improve logistics efficiency and support business growth across the Greater Malé Region.

The economic impact is likely to be especially significant for Thilafushi, the Maldives' industrial hub, where direct road access is expected to improve cargo movement, strengthen supply chains and support future industrial expansion. At the same time,

Gulhifalhu's ongoing port and urban development projects will gain direct road connectivity to the capital region, while expanding residential communities in Hulhumalé and Villimalé will benefit from improved access to employment and public services.

The bridge is also expected to play an important role in supporting future housing developments and creating new opportunities for private investment, commerce and urban expansion throughout the Greater Malé Region.

As construction advances, the project is steadily laying the foundation for a more connected and competitive economy. More than a landmark engineering achievement, the Thilamalé Bridge is poised to become a catalyst for the Maldives' next phase of economic growth and national development.
