MALE’: President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Commander in Chief of the Maldives Armed Forces, and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the flag-hoisting and guard-mounting ceremony held this morning to commemorate Victory Day.
The ceremony took place at the Victory Day Monument, where the President and First Lady were received by Defence and National Service Minister Hassan Rasheed upon their arrival.
Cabinet ministers and senior government officials accompanied the presidential couple at the ceremony.
This year’s Victory Day commemorations began with congregational Fajr prayers, marking the start of events to honour the national occasion.
Victory Day is commemorated annually in the Maldives to remember the events of 3 November 1988, when Maldivian security forces, with assistance from Indian troops, thwarted an armed attack aimed at overthrowing the government.
