BRICS leaders have unanimously adopted a joint declaration calling for restraint in the Middle East and continued flow of global trade, supply chains and energy.

New Delhi: BRICS leaders have called for maximum restraint in the Middle East and urged countries to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy as tensions continue to rise in the region.
The call came in the New Delhi Declaration adopted unanimously on today during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Leaders expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and urged countries to avoid actions that could further worsen the situation.
The declaration also stressed the need to maintain smooth global trade, resilient supply chains and uninterrupted energy flows. BRICS members raised concerns over unilateral tariffs and other trade measures that they said could disrupt international commerce.
The leaders also called for a fair and orderly transition in the energy sector while recognizing the continued importance of fossil fuels, particularly for developing and emerging economies.
The declaration highlighted the importance of energy security, stable energy markets and resilient supply chains. It also called for greater cooperation on critical minerals and the digitalization of energy systems.
The summit brought together leaders of the expanded BRICS group under India’s chairmanship. The meeting is taking place amid conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, trade tensions and wider economic challenges facing developing countries.
A key development on the sidelines was a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders discussed strengthening business ties and improving relations between the two countries, which have remained strained since their 2020 border clash.
The summit is being held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” BRICS leaders are expected to continue discussions on global governance, economic cooperation, technology, energy and development during the two day summit.
The summit launched on today in New Delhi, with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosting the two-day meeting. China’s President Xi Jinping, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian are among those attending.
