The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast widespread rain, heavy showers and thunderstorms across the country until November 11, warning of possible localised flooding.
MALE’: The Southwest Monsoon has become active over the Maldives, bringing the possibility of widespread rainfall, occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms across the country over the next five days.
In a weather news brief issued at 8:00 a.m. on November 7, the Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) said rainy conditions are expected to continue across the country from November 7 to 11.
The service warned that some islands could experience periods of torrential rainfall, increasing the risk of localised flooding.
Rainfall forecast maps generated using the Maldives Meteorological Service’s Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model also indicate varying levels of rainfall across the country throughout the forecast period.
The Meteorological Service has advised the public to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during the period of unsettled weather.
Residents, particularly those in areas prone to flooding, are advised to remain alert as heavy rainfall could affect daily activities and movement.
