Male’: Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu has said major changes will be made to textbooks for Grade 1, 2 and 3 students from the next academic year.
Speaking at the opening of the eighth International Teachers Conference today, Shafeeu said the changes are part of efforts to improve the education system.
The Minister said changing textbooks alone will not bring real change. He said teachers’ work and approach to educating young students are more important.
Shafeeu also said the share of students choosing A Level studies has increased from around 30 to 40 percent in the past, to more than 50 percent today.
He said the government aims to raise this figure to 60 percent by expanding opportunities through Male’ Vocational School.
The current school textbooks were last changed in 2016. The upcoming changes will be the first major revision since then.
