Police have arrested three young adults and seized 230 illegal vape cartridges alongside 1.7 kilograms of suspected illicit drugs during a targeted counter-narcotics operation in Malé.

MALÉ: Maldives Police Service has arrested three individuals and confiscated 230 illegal vape cartridges during a joint counter-narcotics operation in the capital that also uncovered a substantial quantity of illicit drugs and alcohol.
The targeted bust was executed yesterday by the Drug Enforcement Department in collaboration with Counter Narcotics Intelligence following information regarding the possession, use, and commercial trafficking of illicit substances. Officers raided a residential house in the Maafannu ward of Malé, arresting two men and a woman at the scene.
During the search, officers confiscated approximately 1.7 kilograms of suspected illegal drugs. In addition, police discovered 230 vape cartridges and 26 bottles of vape flavorings suspected of containing narcotic compounds, along with a bottle of alcohol.
All three suspects were presented before the court to determine their remand status. The court remanded two of the suspects for 15 days, while the third suspect was remanded in custody for five days as law enforcement continues further investigations.

Hussain Shavin (26): Saneevilla, K. Huraa – Remanded in police custody for 15 days.
Maryam Isha Ashraf (21): Villa, Th. Thimarafushi – Remanded in police custody for 15 days.
Mohamed Nahil (25): Resham, S. Hulhudhoo – Remanded in police custody for 5 days.
Under the Tobacco Control Act, the import, sale, distribution, possession, and use of all vaping devices and electronic cigarettes are strictly banned nationwide across the Maldives since late 2024.
